Transfer for agreed themes: expertise,
management models and methodology between the two regions
Develop and build upon the cultural and social relationship
between the two communities
Develop work on areas of collaboration and mutual interest
(with the first of these being the Sylhet Partnership Project
with our third partner Horsens)
The twinning accord and subsequent partnerships
is a natural progression of a long and fruitful relationship,
which is further encouraged and developed due to Tower Hamlets
being home to the largest Bengali community in the world outside
of Bangladesh itself.
Tower Hamlets and
Sylhet are now using the twinning accord to collaborate on
a number of programmes of economic reforms, which will allow
the Sylhet region, together with existing aid agencies, NGO's,
health agencies and women's development groups, to develop
collective regeneration solutions that contribute to eradicating
poverty and hardship for the communities of Sylhet. [links

The first major collaboration
for our partnership is the tripartite Sylhet
Partnership Project which is now independent of Tower Hamlets and Horsens and a not-for-profit company registered with the Bangladesh
Government. The project has managed to raise funds
locally to carry on with the Waste Management aspect of the project for the next two years
(2003-2005).
