The Partners


Sylhet has partnered with Tower Hamlets and Horsens because:

Tower Hamlets:

Has historic links with Bangladeshi community
Has the largest Bangladeshi population outside of Bangladesh
Has proven success in securing European funding from a range of programmes
Has broad areas of expertise in urban regeneration skills

Horsens:

Has vast experience of delivering programmes in Bangladesh through the Danish aid agency DANIDA, and its in-house company 'Health International'
Have an office base in Bangladesh through Health International.
Became the first cities in Denmark to develop its international networking on experience exchange

About the Project

Essentially a capacity building project to develop the capacity of the local authority to better plan and deliver its services. Also to identify needs and opportunities, and to attract future funds.

To create an arms length company urban regeneration company
To strengthen Sylhet City Corporation's skills base to improve its public services
To establish a partnership board
To introduce good practice regeneration models
This is a 2 year EC funded project.


Purpose of the Project


Our project will have the following contractual outcomes:

Monitoring & evaluation systems to test out new management model
Arms length regeneration company as implementation vehicle.
Restructured City Corporation
Website to promote communication, experience exchange and achievements

Training of City Corporation staff
Inward Investment Strategy to maintain development process
Vision/forward strategy
