On 7 March 1971, Bangladesh’s independence leader Sheikh Mujibur Rahman delivered a historic speech at Ramna Race Course (now Suhrawardy Udyan) in Dhaka to over a million people. In his address, he expressed the struggle for freedom for the people of the then East Pakistan. He called for civil disobedience and urged every house to become a fortress. This speech informally declared Bangladesh’s independence from West Pakistan. Watch the full speech here.
