Spotlight: Forest Gate Freedom Walk, 14 June 2025
A historical journey of black and Asian presence in the beautiful Forest Gate area, celebrating freedom and community spirit! The Forest Gate Freedom Walk looked at the struggles of a multi-ethnic, multi-faith community.
This walk was led by Peter Ashan, a member of Swadhinata Trust and a local historian, born in Hackney and raised in Waltham Forest. He has been an educator for over twenty years, working in post-16 education, museums, galleries and archives. He is also a Clapton Community FC football coach and a Newham Council library assistant.
